Gergo's Story

We first met Gergo through his older brother Zoltan who used to be one of our regular young people at HAFWAY (the local youth project we also run). Sadly, Gergo was diagnosed with medulloblastoma in April 2019 at the age of 11. Since then he has gone through months of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Due to lack of oxygen in his brain he cannot use his arms and legs properly therefore he needs an electric wheelchair to get around. He is registered for one with the NHS but an engineer came out and assessed the family home and unfortunately it does not fulfil the requirements which means he cannot get the wheelchair unless they move house. The council don't have any wheelchair accessible houses available and it could be a wait of up to 1-2 years for one to come available.

Gergo and his family do not want to leave Bolton as Gergo has a place at Sharples School in September which he is really excited about. Sharples are ready and medically prepared to accept Gergo, however without an electric wheelchair he won't be able to get around the school.  So the family feel they have no choice but to try and raise the cost of the electric wheelchair themselves. This is approximately £3,500. They have a GoFundMe page already receiving donations but we want to help them if we can.

So we are planning a Wheelie Good Afternoon Tea on Sat 13th June and all the proceeds will go towards the electric wheelchair for Gergo. We would love it if you would join with us in giving a helping hand to this family who have already come through so much.

Thank you for taking the time to read Gergo's story and we hope you join us for a Wheelie Good Afternoon Tea.
